Six-year-old Sammy is crazy about hockey - especially his hometown heroes the Windsor Spitfires. When the team clinched a spot in the Memorial Cup, Sammy was cheering just as loudly as any player on the team or parent in the stands.
Sammy, who lives with Spina Bifida and is confined to a wheelchair, has been a die-hard fan for the past three years - half his young life. As soon as it was official the "Spits" would be heading off to Brandon, Manitoba for this huge tournament, Sammy wanted to be there too.
The big game was less than a week away, but Sammy's parents had to try something. They approached Sunshine to try and make this dream of a lifetime come true. Thanks to tremendous support from the team, only five days later Sammy was boarding a charter jet alongside the Spitfires, to fly to the tournament with his heroes!
Sammy was there for every game at the tournament, and his excitement was evident even to volunteers at the arena: "Every day that I went in for my shift, the first person I looked for was Sammy. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you for making Sammy's dream come true. It was made complete when his beloved "Spits" won the Memorial Cup trophy. He was there with them on the ice to celebrate with the team. It brought tears to my eyes."

Sammy even got to ride with the Spits in the victory parade when they returned to Windsor!
