Job Opportunity: Manager, Individual and Legacy Giving (Full Time Permanent)

The Sunshine Foundation of Canada is a national children’s charity headquartered in London, ON. In its 30th year of operation, Sunshine exists to help children with severe physical disabilities and life threatening illnesses write a brighter future story from a place of possibility. Through two different programs, Sunshine is able to help build confidence and independence in children 7-17. Founded in 1987, Sunshine has fulfilled more than 8,000 life changing experiences for children across Canada, and coordinated 62 Sunshine DreamLifts.

We are currently seeking an experienced fundraiser for the position of Manager, Individual and Legacy Giving. Your primary focus will be the day to day management of the Individual Giving and Legacy Giving programs. You will oversee the retention, acquisition and stewardship activities for direct mail, tribute giving and employee giving programs, and will manage a portfolio of assigned major gift and legacy donors working closely with the VP, Development and Marketing, the CEO, and leadership volunteers to expand Sunshine’s individual major gifts portfolio. You will be the relationship manager for leadership level individual gifts ($1,000 to $100,000) and build the individual major gifts prospect pipeline. Your responsibilities will also include the stewardship of endowed funds and legacy gifts.

You have progressive experience as a fundraiser, ideally with individual giving and legacy giving campaigns and a demonstrated track record of success in ‘frontline’ major gift fundraising securing gifts $5,000 to $100,000 and experience stewarding legacy gifts. You are knowledgeable of CRM and gift processing best practices. You bring professionalism, discretion, inspiration and authenticity to the way you build strong relationships with volunteers, the philanthropic community, donors, senior staff and colleagues. You are an analytical thinker who can look beyond existing methodologies to resolve complex issues. You are resourceful and independent, but comfortable working within the framework of an integrated development program and team-oriented environment.

This role is located in London, Ontario. Travel will be primarily Ontario-based, but may periodically include travel out of the province. A valid Driver’s License with appropriate business-level insurance coverage required. Regular business hours are office hours Monday to Friday; however this position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.


  • University degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years work experience, preferably in a non-profit environment in individual giving and/or legacy giving with a demonstrated track record of success in ‘frontline’ major gift acquisition securing $5,000 to $100,000 gifts. Equivalent experience in a related field such as sales and marketing, communications, financial services or other may be considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of individual major gift fundraising practices and considerations, including moves management and pertinent tax planning benefits. General knowledge of planned giving and endowed funds is necessary.
  • Sound understanding of fundraising principles (CFRE designation is an asset).
  • Demonstrated ability to interact comfortably, tactfully, professionally and effectively with a wide range of internal and external constituencies and stakeholders, including volunteers, donors, staff, and community members. Exceptional interpersonal skills, superior written communication and proposal writing skills, and experience in prospect research.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience directing and supervising staff, including fundraising professionals.
  • Experience supporting and motivating senior fundraising volunteers.
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and flexibility to meet shifting demands and priorities. Self-directed with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of, and treating with tact, sensitive and confidential information.
  • Positive and professional attitude, appearance and demeanour, and the ability to serve as a personal role model internally and in the community.
  • Proficiency with all MS Office software and CRM systems (Raisers Edge preferred).
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages is an asset.
