Count Down to Sunshine DreamLift Kelowna
Sunshine’s 60th DreamLift took flight December 9 from Kelowna International Airport- destination Disneyland® for 72 kids from the Okanagan Valley living with severe disabilities.
Kelowna, BC – On December 9, The Sunshine Foundation of Canada, Papa John’s Pizza stores from Kelowna, West Kelowna, Kamloops, Prince George and caring individuals from across the Okanagan Valley made the dream of visiting the happiest place on earth come true for 72 kids living with severe disabilities or life threatening illnesses. Sunshine’s dream-making team is organized the final travel details for the volunteers and Sunshine families taking part in the 60th Sunshine DreamLift from Kelowna to Disneyland® Park in Anaheim, California.
The Sunshine DreamLift event is a one-day, whirlwind adventure to the Disney Magic Kingdom, organized by The Sunshine Foundation of Canada and made possible through the incredible generosity of new corporate partner Papa John’s International, Inc. Papa John’s Pizza enthusiastically participated in Dreams for Kids Day last April to help raise the remaining funds and ensure the DreamLift Kelowna would take flight in 2015. The Sunshine team is grateful for the caring support of the business community in Okanagan Valley to make DreamLift Kelowna a reality.
“The Sunshine Foundation is an incredible organization in its service to children. Papa John’s is very excited to be a part of making Sunshine’s DreamLift Kelowna take flight on December 9,” says Geoff Linquist, President of Papa John’s Pizza, British Columbia. “As a Sunshine partner, we will have volunteers lend a hand with the event day preparations, on the plane and at the airport to welcome everyone home.”
Sunshine DreamLifts offer Sunshine Kids an unforgettable day of independence, friendship and adventure. For many children Sunshine’s DreamLift Program is their first plane ride and their first day away from their parents. For some, it is the first time they have been able to travel in a very long time due to daily medical regimes and treatments. Sunshine has a strong connection with the medical community across the region that provides the multi-disciplinary support needed to care for the medical needs of participating children while they are away from home on this magical day.
“This partnership with Papa John’s Pizza means much more than just a flight to a Disney theme park. It’s an experience that changes the lives of all the children who take part in the adventure,” says Nancy Sutherland, Chief Executive Officer, The Sunshine Foundation of Canada. “Papa John’s Pizza is such a caring company with a long tradition of making a difference in their communities. Papa John’s Pizza stores in Kelowna, West Kelowna, Kamloops and Prince George stepped in when we needed a partner to help us raise the remaining funds to ensure our DreamLift Kelowna would take flight as planned in 2015. We offer our deepest gratitude to Papa John’s staff, management and the Okanagan community for making dreams come true for local Sunshine kids.”
