LCBO Raises Funds for Sunshine

Friday, May 20, 2016
Starting May 22nd, the public can help support The Sunshine Foundation of Canada by making a donation at any of the more than 650 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for Sunshine will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until June 18th.

Sunshine is a national Canadian charity impacting the lives of children living with severe physical disabilities or life-threatening illnesses by making their dreams come true. Sunshine Dream Programs allow children to experience freedom from their daily regimens and challenges by having their dreams transformed into reality resulting in an increased sense of empowerment, independence, and confidence that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.  Since its inception in 1987, Sunshine has fulfilled dreams for more than 8,000 children across Canada and has coordinated 61 Sunshine DreamLifts taking large groups of children to a Disney theme park; 37 of those DreamLifts departing from Ontario.

“We are deeply grateful to the LCBO’s generous customers and supportive staff for providing this opportunity to raise critical funds and awareness for Sunshine,” says Nancy Sutherland, CEO of The Sunshine Foundation of Canada. “The funds raised will enable even more children across Ontario to have their dreams fulfilled, providing them and their families with an impact that will last a lifetime.”

“As a socially responsible community-minded retailer, LCBO is pleased to partner with The Sunshine Foundation and support a variety of worthy causes through the Giving Back In Our Community fundraising program,” says LCBO Acting President & CEO George Soleas. “Through the generosity of LCBO customers and the support of our staff, we help improve the lives of countless Ontarians and make a difference in communities across Ontario.”

The Sunshine Foundation is one of 28 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from LCBO’s province-wide donation box program in 2016. In 2014, LCBO raised a total of more than $9.5 million for charities through special programs and initiatives, of which $8.8 million was raised through in-store fundraising. In addition, LCBO’s annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.805 billion in fiscal year 2014-15 ending March 31, 2015, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.
