Dreaming of Kenya

Wayma always had a special bond with her grandmother. It just seemed like no one could connect with the little girl quite like Grandma could. They would spend hours together, signing, smiling and laughing. After her family moved to Canada, she missed Grandma, and when Wayma, now 13, found out that Grandma's health was failing, she worried she might never see her again.

Wayma's parents work hard to give her and her two brothers every opportunity in life, but the reality of raising two children with disabilities means often having to say "no". They were completely overjoyed to discover that their daughter’s dream of visiting Grandma was going to be fulfilled. Wayma was going to Kenya!

Knowing that Grandma's health was an issue, Wayma's journey was arranged as quickly as possible.  Soon she was touching down in Mombasa! She got to go on a safari with her little brother, where they spotted zebra and a whole herd of elephants. Of course Wayma made sure to spend lots of time with Grandma – showing her how much she had learned and grown, and telling her all about her life in Canada!
