Mikayla has had some tough years, and she’s only four.
Mom tells us her daughter is “a very smart and energetic little girl. She knows exactly what she wants.”
Just before her first birthday, Mikayla was diagnosed with Bilateral Retinoblastoma. Only a week later, she started extensive high-dose chemotherapy. Despite the best care, mom and dad “had to face the hard truth that treatment was failing in Mikayla’s left eye and it needed to be removed.” Mikayla is currently doing well, but the tumour in her right eye can not be removed and is still being monitored.
Her mom wrote to tell us “she has not let chemo, cryo, laser, blindness, surgery, blood infections or monthly trips to the operating room take away her passion for life.” Mom asked Mikayla, "If you could do anything magical, where would you go or what would you do?" Her answer:
I want to see Mickey’s Castle: the one Tinkerbell flies over in my princess movies… Also, to be a really, really beautiful princess in a red dress with red shoes to match!
Imagine Mikayla’s joy when one day a giant box arrived at their door. Inside was a sparkly red dress, matching shoes, and tickets for her whole family to go to Disney!
Meeting the princesses and having tea with them was her favourite part of the trip. She even got a chance to learn a dance from her favourite princess, Ariel!
You will never realize the joy you provide to families. Mikayla has been through so much and for her to get this opportunity to enjoy a dream is the best feeling imaginable.
