2e Sunshine Float for Dreams souffle le collecte de fonds hors de l'eau

Mardi 4 juillet 2017

For the second time since the unique community event was introduced in 2016, the Sunshine Float for Dreams fundraiser was a tremendous success with participants having boatloads of fun and raising $89,386 in donations to support Sunshine dream programs for kids. Held on Saturday, June 17th, hundreds of individuals came from across the region, bringing team spirit and enthusiasm to float 5.5 KM down the Grand River from Paris to Brantford in the hottest team-building event of the summer.

Participating team launched from Five Oaks Retreat, competing in team challenges sponsored by BDO Canada LLP. Challenges included a garage sale item toss, water gun target shooting, trivia challenge, and a “Determination Dash” to the finish line. With 8 challenges overall, the winner of the Team Challenge Award was team Hot Sauce from near Toronto.

All the teams came out in full spirit. Whether they dressed as pirates, were adorned in colourful garb, or were representing their corporate brand – it was a terrific display of team comradery mixed with Float for Dreams fun. Each team was asked to nominate another team to win the Team Spirit Award and the resounding winner for the second year in a row was the VersaBank Vikings from London.

As teams exited the water, Sunshine alumnus and volunteer Nathan Manners, his family and Acting Mayor for the City of Brantford Larry Kings greeted floaters, presenting them with participation medals to commemorate their Sunshine Float for Dreams experience.

With more fun to be had, the afternoon included a delicious barbeque with food by Shmokey’s BBQ from London, ON and live performances by Lulu’s Roadhouse Band, former house band at the famous Lulu’s Roadhouse in Kitchener, and locally renowned Brantford band BarCode, interspersed with sets from DJ Anthony H from London, ON, winner of the 2010 JRMA award for Best Club DJ and the 2014 Scene Magazine's Best Electronic Artist award.
