She Danced with Me

Dancing with Ellen DeGeneres is something George will never forget, but it was only a small piece of what his Sunshine Dream meant to him. Sixteen-year-old George, who lives with paraplegia, dreamed of a trip to L.A. He particularly wanted to see a live taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I’ve always loved her show. She’s so charismatic. I thought I would never be able to go and experience that, to be there in a live audience and see her and her guests.”

According to George, the best part of the show happened right at the beginning. “She danced with me. That was really cool. The Ellen Show was the hugest thing for me.”

Having this dream fulfilled has inspired George to pursue another dream he’s had since he was in grade six. “After the trip, I thought it would be really cool to live in Los Angeles. That really was the deciding factor that I want to be an actor. After seeing the sets at Universal Studios, it pushed me to try harder in drama and writing. I’m more focused now. I want to go to school for acting and creative writing. Even if acting doesn’t work out for me I would like to teach those subjects.”

“It just made him happy,” commented George’s mom. “It’s good for his confidence, his self-esteem, for everything.”
