Sisterly bond grows in Alberta

Sara StampedeSara is a caring sixteen year old girl with strong family values.

On a visit to a nearby treatment center for cerebral palsy, Sara learned about The Sunshine Foundation’s mission to fulfill dreams for kids just like her and with the support of her family, was excited to apply.

On her Sunshine Dream application, Sara’s family noted she has a close relationship with her extended family and had been expressing a desire to meet her new nephew in Alberta. She dreamed of joining her relatives for her niece’s birthday, exploring the Calgary Stampede, and relaxing amongst the beautiful sights of Banff, Alberta.

Sara landed in Edmonton in the first week of July and headed straight to her sister’s house. They had a great party celebrating her niece’s birthday and Sara’s visit. Later that week, they all headed south to explore the Calgary Stampede.

The stampede was a popular festival with many tourists taking part in the excitement of the rodeo, Ferris wheel rides, carnival games, and odd food combinations testing one’s bravery. Sara’s love for horses drew her to this famous event and the livestock shows didn’t disappoint. “Sara enjoyed the horses; it was one of her favourite things,” her mom recounts.

The next day, Sara’s family traveled through the Rockies to rest and relax in the sights of Canada’s national park. Sarah thoroughly enjoyed the drive to Banff, delighting in Alberta’s majestic nature and impressive mountains. While in Banff, Sara took in a carriage ride and a stunning bird’s eye view of the town in a Gondola ride. A special part of the trip was a relaxing dip in the hot springs. “Sara loves to swim and the warm hot spring water in the mountains was magical for her,” says her sister Kathy.

Sara’s mom wanted to share that “Every kid that needs some help should have their dream. I thank you very much for that. We had so much fun together. It was a wonderful bonding experience for us with Sara, our kids, and grandkids in Alberta.”
