A hockey dream to thank those who helped Parker along the way

The biggest Calgary Flames fan goes by the name of Parker, a 19 year old from Strathmore Alberta. He never misses a game and knows all of the hockey stats. So it didn’t surprise his friends and family that his Sunshine Dream would be an ultimate Calgary Flames experience. Parker’s dream was two years in the making to ensure he could share the game with family, friends, and the medical professionals who have helped him along the way.

Parker was born with cerebral palsy which can make it difficult for him to coordinate daily tasks. He has many medical appointments and mobility equipment tune ups. But he doesn’t let that stop him from immersing himself in everything hockey and sharing his passion for the sport with others.

In early December, Parker’s dream came true when he arrived at the Calgary Saddledome to watch the team’s morning skate and tour the arena. “I really enjoyed the tour of the Saddledome. I had no idea what it was like behind the scenes.” His afternoon activity was a complete surprise. His name outlined in the large marquee board above the street welcomed Parker to Flames Central, a concert venue and hockey themed restaurant. With the whole venue to themselves, Parker and his family were captivated by the pre-game light and sound show that they put on before each Flames game while enjoying lunch. “Flames Central was awesome! Everyone was so nice and that place is incredible. I have been wanting to go there for years and I will definitely go back.”

Later that night, Parker returned to the Saddledome to watch the Flames vs Sabres game.

“The best part was having my family, friends and long time workers watch the game from the suite, everyone was so excited and I was so happy to share the day with them!”

Just before the end of the game, Parker visited the Flames locker room and met the whole team, including his favourite players Sam Bennett, Johnny Gaudreau, and Sean Monahan who gave him a signed hockey stick.

Parker still talks about his dream every day and loves to share it with everyone he meets. He had a big heart to ask to share his Sunshine Dream with so many people.
